The Halogen Lamp is a type of incandescent lamp which uses a tungsten filament in a bulb which is filled with a mixture of inert gas and a halogen gas or only halogen gas. In an ordinary incandescent lamp, when the lamp is turned on, the tungsten evaporates from the burning filament. This causes blackening of the lamp and lower life span. But in halogen lamps, the gas reacts with tungsten and prevents it from getting reduced from the filament. These lamps have a longer standing life since tungsten returns to the filament. They also prevent the darkening of the glass in lamp. The bulb is made of quartz since the temperature in these bulbs is usually high.
